Hello! We are a part of Girl Scout troop 44123. We are working on our bronze award, a 20-hour community service project that we got to choose. We chose this because we know that menstruation poverty is a real thing, and that many people cannot afford tampons and pads because of the “luxury tax” on them in some places, deeming them “nonessential items”. We are trying to publicize this need around our city, because sometimes you have to start small to make it big.

We researched for places all around our city of Washington, DC that give out free period products, and we made a map of places in the immediate area that will give you free period products on request. We know how important this is to our fellow ladies, trans men, and nonbinary friends who need them at that time of month. So wherever you are in the Washington community, we can try to help. On this website you will find a map of places you can get free tampons and pads in the DC area for free when you need them!

Public spaces all around DC are required by law to put free period products in the bathrooms. But lots of places don’t follow this law. They often never stock or rarely stock the machines in bathrooms. Some places make you pay for them, which is against the law, and often you have to pay in quarters, and let’s be honest, who actually carries those around nowadays? Our goal is to push public spaces to follow these laws so that there’s always a free tampon or pad in a public restroom.
